Matt Allison is one of those people we’ve followed on social media forever and you kind of feel like you know him and his family just via Instagram. They recently relocated from Cape Town to Sydney and a few months ago he squeezed in a tour of his new city for a very cool Nifty Weekend Takeover, from vertical gardens, to Icebergs ocean pool in Bondi Beach and the Harbour bridge it was quite a whirlwind. If you’re obsessed with minimalism, plant life and IKEA you 100% should be following Matt on Instagram.
We caught up with Matt to hear about his favourite places in Cape Town, Sydney and whether we can expect more hangryness inducing food snaps again, cos we miss them!
Yay so last week was basically a test run start of the #NiftyColourProjectII – thanks to @adidasza it’s going to be even more exciting this time around.. The rules are the same, every week on a Monday morning we’ll announce the week’s colour, this week being red obvs. During the week you get to upload photos to Instagram where red is the main or pop of colour and include the hashtag. If we are obsessed with your snap & regram it on our profile you’ll win a Nifty voucher for x30 Polaroid-style prints (delivery not included) however there is now an additional prize for the ultimate best photograph of the week, as chosen by the adidas team, a pair of super-cool-must-have-need-want Stan Smiths! The overall winner for each colour will be announced every Friday afternoon, are you excited or what? The overall winner maybe someone that we’ve selected as one of our favourites, or it could be a completely different entry, we’re leaving it up to the adidas team. Okay now that you’ve got the super simple rules, let’s play
You guys asked for it, so we’re happy to announce that the Nifty Colour Project is back! Last time we embarked on this super fun project we had about 5000 followers & got 1440 entries, we’ve more than doubled that so we’re hoping for tons of ahmazing photographs. For those new to this whole thing, basically every week we choose a colour – this first week is red, all you have to do is take a photograph where red is the main or pop of colour, upload it to Instagram & include #NiftyColourProjectII. Please do not tag old photographs, they don’t count. If we love your snap & regram it on our profile you’ll win a Nifty voucher for x30 polaroid style prints – delivery not included. Some weeks we’ll only have 3 winners and other weeks we could have 10 winners, really just depends on the level of participation and the quality of entries. The competition will run from Monday – Friday for the next 7 weeks, so get snapping! We also have a lil collab with Adidas, but we’ll tell you all about that next week
When your social media is completely blowing up about a new burger joint in Cape Town you know you’ve just gotta drop everything and head there to test them out for yourself, and that’s exactly what the Nifty team did last Wednesday afternoon for lunch. The abbreviation IYO stands for Inside & You’re Out, their ingredients are all locally sourced, the beef is 100% grass fed and organic. They’re all about delicious food, first and foremost, but also local community, watching their environmental impact and ethical accessibility.
You may have tasted their burgers before as they have a stand at the Oranjezicht market every Saturday which is where they first launched, the actual restaurant opened less than 2 weeks ago and it’s been busy ever since. They’re situated in the coolest part of town, Bree Street, we got there at 12 to try and skip the lunch rush, it was pretty quiet when we arrived, and within 15 minutes it was complete packed.

Carla has been someone we’ve had our Instagram eye on for ages, we met her for the first time at the Nifty x Gummie Insta-walk and she was just as lovely as we had imagined, in IRL! She recently celebrated the one year mark of starting her own business Carla Likes Photos, yip she takes such gorgeous photos, we absolutely could not wait for her weekend takeover and it did not disappoint. From Honest Chocolate cafe adventures – we’re so obsessed with that place, to Sunday drives and showing us her perfect way of ending off the weekend, we really enjoyed this little sneak peek into her life.
We caught up with her to chat about starting her own business, what she shoots her photographs with, her favouriting editing app (it’s ours too) and the people she loves following on Instagram
