We’ve driven past the New Brighton Bakery so many times – it’s hard to miss, painted bright orange, and it’s been on our must-try-this-place-out-list for a very long time, we finally stopped by to take a photograph because the Nifty Colour Project colour is currently orange, and promised ourselves we would be back this week. We can finally tick it off the list because we stopped by for lunch today. It’s going to be a Nifty tradition, once a week we are going try out a new coffee or lunch place, preferably in our hood Woodstock, and then we’ll let you know what we think.. (more…)
Yay for our first #NiftyWeeklyProject winner – @zoemiagruss who’s favourite coffee spot is House of Machines!
Last week was the first of what we’re callin’ the #NiftyWeekyProject & the theme was ‘coffee shops’ – there were 70 entries in total & 5 winners. From coffee shops just down the road, like House Of Machines, to Bryni’s trip to Smits Koffiehuis in Amsterdam, and Kristen’s new favourite & delightfully cosy spot, La Causerie des Mondes in Dijon, France – here are the winning photographs & a few of our favourite spots thrown in too!
P.S. this week’s theme is ‘indulgences’ – you can take that as you wish and show us yours.. Simply upload your photo to Instagram and include the hashtag #NiftyWeeklyProject as well as a lil description – no tagging of old photos please. If we love & regram your photo you’ll win a Nifty voucher for x16 Strips – delivery not included.
Photo of the Flat Mountain window by @RowanEva
This weekend Rowan took over our Instagram account – we’ll do a blog post all about him – and showed us a sneak peek of a new coffee spot opening in our hood, Flat Mountain coffee roasters. We haven’t been this excited about a new shop opening, since The Creamery announced they were opening in Salt River (1 October is the day) and we were especially happy because since moving from Side Street Studios – where we were right next door to Rosetta, The Field Office & Superette – there have been no great places to grab a cuppa coffee within walking distance of our new studio space in Buchanan Square. To make things even better Flat Mountain is literally across the road from us in Sir Lowry Road so we’ll be popping in regularly.
Yesterday was their first day of business and we grabbed a cappuccino, espresso and bottle of JuiceBox cloudy apple juice. The space is bigger than expected, great wooden paneling, mild steel stools & thick rope lights – it’s super clean but not too minimal, there is also a pop of yellow in the form of a comfy couch. For their first week they’re running a special – R10 for all coffees, so go pop in and check it out, you can also pay via SnapScan which we love! They’ll be expanding their menu in the coming weeks with some sandwich offers soon, cos as much as we love The Kitchen, with their latest round of price increases means they’re not nearly as affordable as they used to be..
A huge thanks from us at Nifty as well as our friends at vida e caffè for all of your #dailycoffeeritual submissions. We loved your photos and your daily coffee ritual stories! These are the 10 entries that we loved – it was really hard to narrow it down to just 10 winners, but here they all are..
