A few weeks ago we posted about a new job we were looking to fill at the Nifty studio, we were absolutely astounded and overwhelmed by the responses, thank you so much to everyone who sent through your CVs, especially to those who put a lot of thought and effort into your cover letters, we loved & LOL’d (in a good way) going through them. After narrowing the field down via coffee meetings at Flat Mountain Roastery we have filled with position, everyone meet Le’Chelle Taylor!
Le’Chelle was the absolute perfect person for us, she fit the role to the T, believe you me, we stalked all your Instagram accounts and we loved that a few scrolls down on hers we spotted a fresh batch of Nifty prints, plus she has a cool Instagram account (follow her @LeChelle_Taylor) which was an optional extra, but that we were actually quite serious about. Le’Chelle officially started training on Monday and tomorrow will be her first day taking over the reigns, eek! Just kidding, we have faith. We chatted to her about applying for the job, her own super cool blog Taylor Made, having a Youtube channel, her greatest extravagance (data, which is ours too ha) and her pet peeves!
1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Le’Chelle, I quote movies in regular conversation, love hummus & basil pesto way too much, my apartment is the place where plants come to die – even though I love them, I’m slowly working my way towards a half-sleeve (of tattoo’s), love anything beauty & makeup related, drinks of choice: cappuccino & wine – not combined, but if someone does create a combination that’s good, I’d be on that!
2. Yay so you’ve got the job at Nifty, what made you apply for the job with us?
It’s Nifty…. I feel like that’s explanation enough! But the long of it is that I’ve loved and watched Nifty from the beginning & love that the cornerstone of Nifty is personal customer service, not many companies are like that nowadays, it’s refreshing!
3. You’ve got a pretty cool blog Taylor Made and a Youtube channel, when did you start it and how much time do you spend shooting, curating, editing and blogging every week?
I started blogging in 2011 but let’s not even talk about that – it was horrid! I then created my current Taylor Made Blog in 2013 and recently jumped into the YouTube pool toward the end of last year. I mainly post about beauty & makeup related stuff, but there are some other food, DIY & fashion bits. I use most Saturday & Sunday mornings to photograph products & film videos, and spend any other free moments editing, writing posts and curating my social media accounts. So around about 25+ hours per week!
4. Who are your favourite people to follow on Instagram?
Some favourites are Sara Donaldson (@harperandharley) for FASHION, Antonia (@craftifair) for DECOR bits, Jessica Stafford (@jessbinxx) for beautiful snaps of Cape Town, All Dolled Up (@alldolledup_sa) for some beauty bits & Nifty 250 (@nifty250_) for all good things
5. What are your favourite photo editing apps?
Other than tweaking the brightness I don’t usually edit my photographs and when I do I use VSCOcam & Afterlight.
6. What is your greatest extravagance?
Data, LOL! And obviously overseas makeup & beauty brands that haven’t made it to SA yet.
7. What is your most treasured possession?
Not possessions but definitely most treasured – my family & LéBoyfriend!
8. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Perfect happiness is a Sunday lunch complete with family, amazing roast + basil pesto & hummus, 1-5 rounds of 30 Seconds, insane laughter, no phones & far too much noise!
9. What is your absolute pet peeve?
Eating noises and slurping! Can’t deal!
10. Macarons or cupcakes? Sprinkles or chocolate chips? Tea or coffee?
Cupcakes + chocolate chips + coffee = the best combo & hello diabetes!
