Follow @LichiPan on Instagram
Li-Chi Pan has been our Instagram obsession for quite some time, when we first discovered her account (which now has 28,000 followers) and it said ‘Sydney / South Africa’ in the bio we were intrigued.. Li-Chi is not someone who just posts photographs to Instagram just cos she can, you can see so much time and effort goes into styling her shots, editing them and curating her beautiful feed. Her photographs are light, bright and range from everything like her latest Nike Roshe Run purchase, to macarons in bed, Celine bags, the ultimate MacBook & cappuccino at work combo by the pool and then there are lots of travel photos. Going through Li-Chi’s feed it seems like she is in a different country every week, a short scroll reveals shots from Sydney, Johannesburg, Great Barrier Reef, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, Taipei and Budapest.
We were oh so excited when Li-Chi agreed to do a Nifty Weekend Takeover for us 2 weekends ago, and it was honestly one of our favourites ever – not to mention they consistently got the most likes, so we think you doubled-tapped loved them too! We caught up with the lady behind this amazing account to talk travel, her favourite photo editing apps and how long she spends curating her feed.
P.S. prediction from us, she’s definitely going to hit 100,000 followers, if not more this year..
1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a twenty three year old recent Masters of Architecture graduate from the University of Sydney born and bred in Jozi, South Africa. I moved to Sydney 5 years ago to further my studies and left behind the familiar in exchange for a taste of the unfamiliar.
Waffles & Tarts. What better way to begin a day?
2. You have quite a few Instagram followers, when did your account start ‘taking off’?
When I hit my first thousand followers I was so humbled and inspired to keep to my theme which was having a minimal, white aesthetic. A year and a half later after my trip to Europe I hit 20K which was an amazing milestone! I never dreamt that people would be interested in my photographs so it’s really great having family and friends follow my adventures through Instagram.
3. Your Instagrams are very stylised and beautifully curated, how much time to spend creating content and editing your photos per week?
I usually take 15-20 photos and select my top three to edit. I’ll usually pick my favourite image after looking at which one fits my feed the best. I spend quite a lot of time brainstorming new, creative content to post over the weekends and try to execute as many ideas as I have.
No Sunday is complete without making time to brunch with close friends. Found this little gem in Jo’Burg and it’s still a favourite to date!
I will always be a bit of a sucker for beautifully tiled floors
4. We notice you travel a lot, from Johannesburg to Sydney to Tokyo to Paris, which is your favourite holiday destination & things to do there?
One of the most underrated places I have ever visited has got to be Engelberg located in Switzerland. It was the first time I had ever laid eyes on snow and I was completely mesmerized by the backdrop of Mount Titlis. We took three types of cable cars to reach the peak of Titlis and I managed to explore the highest suspension bridge in Europe and glacier caves. Although Switzerland is infamous for being heartbreakingly expensive it is a holiday destination I would recommend everyone try visit Engelberg at least once in their life!
