Photo of the Flat Mountain window by @RowanEva
This weekend Rowan took over our Instagram account – we’ll do a blog post all about him – and showed us a sneak peek of a new coffee spot opening in our hood, Flat Mountain coffee roasters. We haven’t been this excited about a new shop opening, since The Creamery announced they were opening in Salt River (1 October is the day) and we were especially happy because since moving from Side Street Studios – where we were right next door to Rosetta, The Field Office & Superette – there have been no great places to grab a cuppa coffee within walking distance of our new studio space in Buchanan Square. To make things even better Flat Mountain is literally across the road from us in Sir Lowry Road so we’ll be popping in regularly.
Yesterday was their first day of business and we grabbed a cappuccino, espresso and bottle of JuiceBox cloudy apple juice. The space is bigger than expected, great wooden paneling, mild steel stools & thick rope lights – it’s super clean but not too minimal, there is also a pop of yellow in the form of a comfy couch. For their first week they’re running a special – R10 for all coffees, so go pop in and check it out, you can also pay via SnapScan which we love! They’ll be expanding their menu in the coming weeks with some sandwich offers soon, cos as much as we love The Kitchen, with their latest round of price increases means they’re not nearly as affordable as they used to be..
Remember when we launched the Nifty Colour Project 8 weeks ago..? These past few, very colourful weeks have just flown by – purple, last week was actually supposed to be the last week, but due to popular demand we’ve decided to keep on going, so this week’s colour is pink! Once we’ve run out of colours we’re going to move onto different themes – water, sand, beach, coffee, roads, flowers etc – if you’ve got some cool ideas please leave a suggestion in the comments!
By the end of purple week there were 1240 new photos tagged with #NiftyColourProject – thanks to everyone who has contributed to this fun, not so little experiment. Scroll down to have a look at some of our the purple winners – from Lindt to lavendar, to Nike Free Runs & sunsets it was a particularly delightful week.
Zana banner collab with @emmajanenation – ‘Turn Down For What’
Zana products are one of our favourite South African brands to follow on Instagram cos they just get it so damn right! They have us lustin’ over their products – from their new banner collab with blogger Emma-Jane Harbour, to their cutest pillow covers, DIY copper magazine stands & cat sprinkle bowls. We caught up with the Zana girls to talk all things business, creative as well as their greatest extravagances!
Last week was dedicated to everything blue, with the latest Nifty Colour Project. It was also the week we passed 1000 photos on the hashtag, which made us feel pretty much the opposite of blue! Thank you so much for your unbelievable support of our little project and for sharing your beautiful images with us, we can’t believe how quickly this has all gone, as we move into what was supposed to be our last week, purple – due to popular demand however we may extend it a bit further.. Watch this space!
These Nifty winners really took us places with their photos from the top of Tygerberg Hill to see Cape Town Stadium from an angle we’ve never seen it before, to the Manhattan Bridge, boat trippin’ on the Knysna Lagoon, flyin’ over icebergs, Rosenborg Castle Gardens in Copehagen, livin’ the island life in Cozumel Mexico & skiing liftin’ in Tirol Austria – we saw the world through your blue tinted glasses, scroll down to see all 11 winning images..
Summer is on it’s way & Virgin Active SA want you to show them that you’re committed to setting your alarm clock really early to get in your workout. Upload a photo of a sunrise (like this one by @lucasradams) with #VAhappysummer & you could win a whole lotta Nifty vouchers – we love brands that use our products as prizes, so obviously we had to spread the love a lil bit
