There are few Instagram accounts that make us want to snap our laptops shut and book the next flight to Southeast Asia, or at least head straight to an hour-long hotbox yoga session/declutter the studio/feng shui every damn thing in sight. Lisa Ting Chong’s serenely minimalist Instagrams are a welcome breath of fresh air between the usual selfie/burger/sunset pictures we’re so used to seeing (and guilty of taking ourselves, ahem..). Lisa was kind enough to answer our nosy questions about her Instagrammin’ ways:
When did you start instagramming?
I started Instagramming when I received my first iPhone 4 in March, 2012.
Can you describe your Instagram style?
“Less is more”. Minimalism with an element of surprise.
What are your favourite apps?
I try avoiding the use of apps and allow time, weather, environment and the subject to dictate an image – like chance captured purely in a single moment. But when I do use apps, I enjoy using VSCOcam.
What photography/editing tips do you have for our community?
“Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder” perfectly describes the journey and discovery Instagram takes you on. There is creativity in every one of us, and once discovered, keep doing what you’re doing. You will land yourself a beautiful gallery which teaches you a lot about yourself – what catches your eye and ultimately connects you with those who appreciate what you appreciate.
Leave selfies for Facebook.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Perfect happiness would be every moment you’re happy. Being caught up in a perfect moment, perfect enough to be captured in a square which speaks a million words that can be shared with others.
What is your greatest extravagance?
For now? Deluxe coffee.
Which talent would you most like to have?
The superpower to heal. By having this power it would allow me to keep those close to me forever.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
19k Followers on Instagram without an inkling or desire to even achieve that. It’s nice to know that people appreciate the things I appreciate.
What is your most treasured possession?
My Baby Beau.
Which historical figure do you most identify with?
Not so historical Japanese photographer, Hiroshi Sugimoto.
When and where were you happiest?
When every moment is a happy moment.
Who are you favourite people to follow on Instagram?
@catherinesomething, @cianogrigio, @voodoolx, @TS__1, @taddeuss, @brockdavis, @eylride, @kristinenor, @mollymgrubbs, @malotten, @iamtonyhammond, @unclebenwild, @tomoyoww, @dianakeenan, @ryupi, @elinlia, @chocopino, @caliva, @do125
